World Population Day 2007
Like many other
countries across the globe, World Population Day (WPD) 2007 is going to
be observed in Bangladesh on 11 July. Elaborated programmes have been
undertaken throughout the country to celebrate WPD 2007. The theme for
World Population Day 2007 is:
"Men as Partners in Maternal Health"

WPD 2007 Programmes at National Level include:
a) Press Briefing : on 10 July 2007 by Hon'ble Health Advisor and
he will be accompanied by Secretary (Health), DG Family Planning, DG
Health Services and UNFPA Representative in Bangladesh giving special
focus on WPD 2007 theme and FP-RH interventions of MOH&FW. The press
briefing will take place at the Conference Room of the Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare (MOH&FW).
b) TV Talk Show : Bangladesh Television will telecast a talk show
on 10 July 2007 giving special emphasis on the theme of WPD 2007 and
maternal health situation in Bangladesh. The discussants are: Hon'ble
Health Advisor, Health Secretary, DG Family Planning, DG Health Services
and UNFPA Representative in Bangladesh.
c) Rally : (Bangladesh Shishu Academy to Osmani Memorial Hall)
will take place under the leadership of Hon'ble Health Advisor with the
participation of government officials particularly MOH&FW, DGFP, NGOs,
INGOs, development partners.
d) Inaugural Ceremony : An Inaugural session will take place at
the Osmani Memorial Hall. Hon'ble Chief Advisor has given his kind
consent to grace the occasion as Chief Guest.
e) Prize Giving Ceremony : Field level family planning workers (FWAs
& FWVs), Union Health & Family Welfare Centers (UH & FWCs), MCWCs,
Union Parishad (UP), Upazilla and NGOs will be awarded for their
valuable contribution in family planning, maternal and child health
initiatives;
• Similar programmes have been undertaken at Division, District and
Upazilla levels.
f)
Week-long Special FP-RH Services : The Directorate General of Family
Planning (DGFP) under the Ministry of Health and Family welfare will
provide week-long special FP-RH services through different service
delivery centres like UH&FWCs and MCWCs. Also a number of NGOs/ INGOs
like NSDP, Engender Health, Marie Stopes Clinic, SMC, Dhaka Ahsania
Mission, Nari Moitree, Plan International will provide special FP-RH
services through out the country which include motivational programmes
on permanent and long-term methods (NSV, IUD), NSV camp, safe
motherhood, ASRH, male involvement etc.
